We love working with small businesses for web design. Why? Because we’re a small business ourselves and we love helping others!
We say it all the time and we feel it’s accurate, we don’t just build websites here. We build LEAD-GENERATING websites. After all, if your website marketing isn’t working for your business and generating new business, you’re simply missing out.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the following percentage of businesses that fail in the U.S.A. are:
That’s obviously an alarming rate, and it hasn’t changed a whole lot for the past 3 decades if you look at the numbers.
With that being said, web design has changed A LOT in 3 decades. But how people search the web hasn’t changed drastically, let me explain.
People use Google. That’s no secret, and I’m sure if you’re reading this, you use it too. Now, as a business owner, search Google a half dozen times for keyword phrases related to your business. Did you find your website easily? Does your Google listing look enticing?
Also, did you find your Google Business Profile in the results at the top? If not, you should! The fact is, if you’re in the 3-pack of the Google Business Profile results, AND in the top 3 in the organic search results, you’re going to be busy. That’s just a fact as long as your keyword phrases are actually generating REAL traffic! (we always data mine beforehand to avoid guessing)
So now that you’re familiar, are you still looking for website designers for small business? Where do you start?
Again, most people seem to either use Google OR use a referral from a friend or fellow business owner. We see it here all the same. We do business with clients all over the country, from Alaska to Florida and everywhere in between. How did they find us? Google.
Same as referrals. I don’t care what kind of business you are, NOBODY hates referrals. If someone refers another to you, that’s one of the ultimate forms of a compliment. We get referrals all the time here, and we greatly appreciate our clients for that…
Proper SEO and Local SEO are vital to the future of any small business. But here’s the problem, EVERYONE claims to be an SEO expert these days. That in itself is alarming, but we see it every day. I don’t claim to know everything in SEO, nobody knows EVERY variable in their algorithm (that’s always changing too), but I feel I’ve learned enough over the past 22 years practicing to be pretty darn dangerous.
Let’s take our company, for example. How do we approach website design for small business? Research, research, and more research after that.
The first thing we do is data mine Google for the most sought-after keyword phrases in that niche. Some are obvious, but often many are not. All we’re doing is simply connecting the dots and making matches. It’s that simple (well not really, but it kind of is).
After that, we map out the site with the pages we feel make sense for collecting leads. These first few steps are CRUCIAL in any web design project. But what’s amazing is how many web design companies simply don’t do it. I’m not going to lie though, it’s fine as it gives me job security. :-)
But in all seriousness, every page we design has a purpose. What’s the intent of that page? How can we use that to get the customer to ACT (aka reach out to you via phone or email usually)? That’s simply key at the end of the day.
You can have 1000 users/day on your website but if nobody is calling, what’s the point?
Most companies don’t specialize in small business, but we do. As stated earlier, we love working with small businesses. From startups to long-term shops, we help them all.
In order to make website design for small businesses work, you need to explain the process and expectations to the client extremely well.
For example, if we’re launching a brand new website, it ALWAYS takes a little time before it starts ranking well (usually 2 to 3 months). And when you’re armed with that knowledge, you simply use other marketing avenues to fill the gap until the website takes over.
If you’re looking for a website designer for small business, we’d love to work with you. It all starts with a simple phone call. I don’t try to sell anyone, rather, I wear my consultant hat most of the time. As much as you’re interviewing me, I’m also interviewing you to determine if we’re the right fit. We LOVE turning businesses around, the stats/numbers prove it.
We track every phone call and email coming from the website, as well as the Google Business Profile. Statistics are VITAL to any SEO campaign. The numbers never lie, it’s either working or it isn’t.
Yep! It’s all in the numbers as they typically tell the tale of what’s going on.
Take this small business we took over a few months ago. This is what happens when their Google rankings turn around. They not only equaled more traffic but MORE PHONE CALLS and EMAILS. This client is busy.
Obviously, each case study varies in numbers, but using phone calls and emails is a pretty solid metric to use. And in this case, roughly half of their traffic came from Google searches alone. And they had the longest average time on site per visit, simply because you’re offering what they’re looking for at the time. Yet another reason why SEO is so important to a small business's success.
Considering the economy these days, not a lot of small businesses are sitting with large advertising budgets in the bank. The website has to work for them, it’s literally that important to most.
Whether or not you feel this is necessary, we’re always here to answer questions. In fact, fell free to email or call me during normal business hours and I will offer advice. We’re all in this together as small business owners, so let’s make it count!
